ROBERT JONES

Robert Jones is a high-tech start-up veteran with more than 15 years' experience building new organizations, making him well suited for marketing leadership in new growth businesses.

Jones has spent 22 years in the products and services sectors of the electronic design automation (EDA) and semiconductor industries. For more than 12 of those years he has engaged in marketing, product management and business development of software products and services targeting major corporations. 

A Partner with SOLIDexecutive, Inc., Jones also is CEO of Austin, Texas-based Operational Transparency, a value-added, IC consulting firm crafting data-driven solutions to improve performance for a broad range of companies. His Client engagements focus on operations management, sales force training/management, high-potentials development, career advancement, career planning, career/personal branding and on boarding into new roles.

Jones has led more than 45 direct sales campaigns focused on solution selling to Fortune 500 Clients, both domestic and international. Using team-based approaches to maximize account penetration, his efforts have generated revenues exceeding a combined total of $30 million.

Having led 15 start-up teams in six start-up organizations through more than 25 business transitions, Jones has become adept at recruiting, behavioral interviews, skills and interests assessments, team building and alignment. His technical expertise encompasses virtually all aspects of IC design, and he networks with hundreds of corporate contacts, industry editors, analysts and investors.

In June 2009, Jones founded Operational Transparency (OT), a multi-million-dollar consultancy that applies customized methodology to existing data to produce actionable information that is readily accessible to decision makers in fast-paced environments. Through business process, implementation and product definition services, his team enlightens and empowers leadership to drive cultural changes needed for sustainable long-term success.

OT's cutting-edge expertise has improved operational performance, closed delivery gaps caused by high growth, enhanced revenue through targeted sales support and increased renewals and expansions. Selected past Clients include AMD, Fujitsu, IBM, Intel, NEC, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Samsung, TI, Toshiba and UMC.

Before starting OT, Jones was recruited by top management to direct two new strategic business units within Magma Design Automation. As such, from 2004 to 2009 he was involved in overall corporate strategy planning while responsible for marketing BU analysis products to meet corporate objectives. Jones led all phases of marketing four new division products and developed several winning, early-adopter partnerships.

As Strategic Marketing Director of Magma's Silicon Correlation Division in 2003-04, Jones led a re-branding and positioning campaign that protected and increased revenues by establishing the division's identity and independence. By re-establishing critical business partnerships, the division met its first 12-month earn-out revenue cliff for investors within nine months, which led to accelerated re-structuring.

From December 1999 through October 2003, Jones directed both strategic marketing and a new products BU for Silicon Metrics prior to its acquisition by Magma. Sales and revenue more than doubled, and the company won a major industry award. Jones led a critical marketing campaign culminating in recognized market leadership and, ultimately, acquisition after valuation rose more than 50 percent in nine months.

In 1997-1998, Jones was the principal engineer for product development at Galaxi, a start-up services sub of Avanti (now Synopsys, which he subsequently joined). He led more than 10 sales campaigns, more than tripling first-year bookings and revenue plans with three deals exceeding $1 million.

Jones began his career in 1982 as a software services consultant and was the principal of an IT start-up firm before joining AMD.

Jones holds two degrees in Electrical Engineering: a master's from the University of Texas (Austin) and a bachelor's from Georgia Tech (Georgia Institute of Technology).
